CATHY SIMMONS

PROFESSIONAL

If you are reading this webpage, than you’re interested in knowing more about me and my work.  Basically, I am a Social Work Professor who focuses on strength’s based methods and positive psychology theories.

I hold four degrees including a PhD in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington, a Masters of Social Work from Delaware State University, a Masters of Education from Wilmington College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Delaware.  I also hold the Texas LCSW credential. 

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Social Work, Memphis Campus.  Prior to joining academia, I worked as an a clinical social worker in the crisis intervention, mental health, and family violence arenas. 

My research interests focus on forensic social work as related to gender, trauma, and violence.  Specifically, I’m working on projects that increase understanding about trauma reactions, violent crimes, and interpersonal violence.  If you would like to know more about my professional interests and accomplishments, please see my vita, publications, and research pages.

I am married to a wonderful man named Matt and live in Cordova, Tennessee with our dog KC.  If you would like to know more about my personal interests please see my family pictures page.
