The following list includes brief descriptions for some of my current projects.  Please contact cathysimmons@utk.edu if you would like additional information.

Strengths-Based BIP:  The edited book Strengths-Based Batterers Intervention: A New Paradigm in Ending Family Violence incorporates strength’s based practice models and theoretical proposals into one text BIP providers can use as reference and guide for practice. The book can be ordered from Springer, Barnes & Noble, or amazon.com.

Crime Response: Violent crimes including homicide, sexual assault, and family violence often have devastating effects.  To this end, I’m working on a a number of projects exploring issues in recovery and service utilization including Experienced of Covictims of Homicide, Community Response to Sexual Assault, and Women's Access to Survivor Services.

Women Who Use Violence:  Women’s use of violence is an interesting field of research that has received surprisingly minimal attention in the published literature.  Areas that that we have explored include diagnostic issues, attitudes toward violence, trauma history, parenting, and substance use.

Controlling Behaviors Project:  Preventing framily violence is predicated on understanding power and control in intimate relationships.  To better understand controling behaviors, we've completed a number of projects exploring how the use of controlling behaviors relates to other aspects of domestic violence including dangerousness, abuse of pets, and use of the sex industry.

Social Workers at War:  Even though social workers have served in the armed forces since the 1940s, very little is written describing their experiences.  While deployed, I completed a qualitative phenomenological study on this unique population.

Case Studies:  As one of my first projects as a doctorial student, I wrote three case studies for the social work casebook series.
